Security Priorities

In an article on TiVoToGo:

"in what universe should an episode of 'Desperate Housewives' get more protection than my Quicken financial data?"

Good question.

Answer: In an economically rational universe, unless "my" refers to Warren Buffet or Bill Gates.

An episode of "Desperate Housewives" is worth more money in direct broadcast rights, advertising sales, syndication fees, etc... than the total net worth of almost anyone who uses Quicken to manage his or her finances.

Just 'cuz ya don't like it don't mean it ain't true.

I'm sure the total worth of all distribution channels for that TV show is greater than mine - and my net worth isn't at risk if my computer bookkeeping data is at risk - but there's no way that my backup and time-shifting copies of the TV show will threaten that entire worth of the TV show. If you divide that show's worth by the number of viewers, you might well get something worth less than my own personal privacy.
